If you live in the Texas/Oklahoma area, and own a swimming pool, it’s a guarantee that you will have issues with high calcium hardness levels in your swimming pool water. Why? It’s simple, calcium hardness is extremely high in our tap water and as water evaporates in your swimming pool, the hardness minerals stay behind and gradually increase over time. When dealing with proper chemistry in a swimming pool, your optimal calcium hardness is between 200-400 parts per million (ppm). Depending on where you live, calcium hardness coming out of the tap can be 300 – 500ppm and higher in many areas of Oklahoma.  With that said, the typical answer would be to drain a swimming pool and fill it up with moderately hard water again, which not only wastes precious water but it doesn’t always solve the problem. There are also many risks involved with draining a swimming pool as well which we have highlighted in previous blogs. Water quality is huge when dealing with larger bodies of water, especially in warm climates where it is easer for algae to grow in warm water. Instead of draining, you can now recycle your swimming pool water using our mobile filtration system. Our “Puripool” Process is mobile and can lower calcium hardness, total dissolved solids, cyanuric acid as well as other nagging issues like salts and phosphates. We designed this system to give those with swimming pools an alternative to draining by recycling it and conserving 85% of the water.

Last week, we scheduled a pool to be recycled because their chief complaint was high calcium hardness levels and total dissolved levels. The following chemistry was causing issues to the pool and making it more challenging to take care of. Not to mention, they didn’t want to risk emptying out the water in the swimming pool.

Initial Chemistry

Calcium Hardness – 900ppm

Total Dissolved Solids – 9000ppm

CYA – 300 plus

With values like the above, it can be extremely difficult to manage your swimming pool. This is a common issue with swimming pools in Oklahoma and Texas. After filtering this swimming pool for 16 hours, we were able to leave our customer with the following chemistry.

Calcium Hardness – 200ppm

Total Dissolved Solids – 2500ppm

CYA – 80

We highlight this type of swimming pool because he has told us that since we finished processing the swimming pool it has become much easier to take care of it and he loves the feel of the water.
