In a recent article titled, “Many Public Swimming Pools and Hot Tubs Overwhelmingly Fail Health Checks, thousands of pools, hot tubs, and splash parks are shut down every year due to health and safety violations, according to a new report published Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Nearly 80 percent of public pools and water playgrounds had at least one violation during inspection.” The research was performed in nearly 50,000 swimming pools in Arizona, California, Florida, New York and Texas where findings showed that 80% of the swimming pools had at least one violation. The biggest culprits were found in kiddie pools and water playgrounds and the findings were mainly Cryptosporidium. Cryptosporidium is a parasite that can live in water even with adequate amounts of chorine. Due to the fact that kids and even adults urinate in swimming pools, as well as, even the most unfortunate could happen which is a child could defecate in the swimming pool. Symptoms of cryptosporidium are diarrhea, stomach cramps, upset stomach and slight fever.
This is becoming a major issue and most individuals who swim in commercial pools aren’t concerned because the water is clear and blue. At Weber Pools, we offer a pool service that specializes in working with commercial properties. We work well with numerous management companies of some of the largest luxury developments in the DFW area. Weber Pools is familiar with the property management process, and we carry the current pool service licenses and insurances required by most commercial facilities. In addition, we are also aware of all the current and ever-changing health department swimming pool requirements and processes. Our biggest concern is you and to make sure you are swimming in a pool that is safe for not only the adults but kids too. These type of outbreaks increase around the time of swim season, which is now. Unfortunately, unless you ask to see the health report you are always taking a risk.
As for commercial properties that fail inspections, the biggest question is what to do now? The typical solution is to drain and refill a swimming pool because as stated above even with adequate amounts of chlorine these waterborne diseases won’t go away. This means downtime for the commercial property, as well as, the risk of damaging the surface of the swimming pool. This is why Weber Pools is your complete swimming pool company. As stated above we are on top of the health department changes but we can also help if there is a waterborne disease. We offer a mobile filtration service that comes to the property and recycles the swimming pool without draining it. This process will remove Cryptosporidium, will allow swimmers to swim while the process is done and most importantly we will make sure the water is in safe shape to swim.
