In a recent article titled, “Many Public Swimming Pools and Hot Tubs Overwhelmingly Fail Health Checks, thousands of pools, hot tubs, and splash parks are shut down every year due to health and safety violations, according to a new report published Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Nearly 80 percent of public pools and water playgrounds had at least one violation during inspection.” The research was performed in nearly 50,000 swimming pools in Arizona, California, Florida, New York and Texas where findings showed that 80% of the swimming pools had at least one violation. The biggest culprits were found in kiddie pools and water playgrounds and the findings were mainly Cryptosporidium. Cryptosporidium is a parasite that can live in water even with adequate amounts of chorine. Due to the fact that kids and even adults urinate in swimming pools, as well as, even the most unfortunate could happen which is a child could defecate in the swimming pool. Symptoms of cryptosporidium are diarrhea, stomach cramps, upset stomach and slight fever.
