When calcium builds up on the cell it will no longer generate chlorine!

Do you own a salt system or have you thought about purchasing a salt system for your swimming pool? If you’ve said yes to either one of these questions and own a swimming pool in the Southwest U.S., Texas or Oklahoma you might want to think twice before you purchase it. Salt systems are typically sold because they claim they are easy to use and make your swimming experience much more fun. There’s no doubt that you can feel a difference in the water but they aren’t always easy to maintain. Depending on the salt system you buy, it is essential that you maintain adequate salt levels, a baseline of a certain amount of CYA (conditioner) and most importantly your calcium hardness must be within a specific range or the system won’t function properly. Unfortunately, these are not always discussed when you buy the system!

Calcium hardness is by far one of the biggest issues we deal with in Oklahoma and Texas. Most salt systems can only handle 200 – 400 parts per million (ppm) calcium hardness and the minimum we see in our areas coming out of the tap is already at 300 ppm or higher! The challenges that occur when calcium levels get higher than 400ppm is the calcium starts scaling the electrode plates, causing the cells to no longer work, which means no chlorine in the swimming pool. This isn’t something that most people are aware of when they purchase the salt systems but is something that you should know about because at Weber Pools we have a few suggestions for you:

Since our water is harder, these two things will help you the most if you want your salt water system to function properly. Our mobile filtration system can come to your home or commercial property and recycle the swimming pool water instead of draining it. The system lowers the following:

  • Calcium hardness
  • Total Dissolved Solids
  • Salts
  • Phosphates
  • CYA
  • Waterborne diseases
  • So much more

The reason why this is essential if you own a salt water system is we can bring down the calcium hardness in the swimming pool much lower than tap water, which means the system will function longer and more effectively. Using this service every two years will also increase the lifespan of your liner, pumps and filters too! So, if you’re looking to have a salt system in your swimming pool, call us today so we can help make sure it works properly!
