Calcium staining on the water tile line

Calcium staining on the water tile line

As fall is quickly approaching, it means football is in the air, cooler temps, holidays and so much more. It also means swim season is coming to an end unless you have a solar pool cover or a heated pool! This is also the most common time to change out the water in your swimming pool if you need to do so. This fall season we ask that if it is time to change out the water in your swimming pool that you recycle it instead of draining it and we hope this blog post helps explain why.

In the Dallas area, our tap water is loaded with calcium and other hardness minerals. This calcium, over time will gradually build up because as water evaporates, the hardness minerals remain in solution. As the calcium content increases, it will begin to build up on the water tile line, the liner of the swimming pool and your swimming pool filtration equipment. If you have water features and spillways it can be an eyesore to look at. It can even cause an increase in chlorine usage, which makes swimming in these pools a lot less fun because of burning eyes and itchy skin. When the water gets to this point, most pool professionals will recommend a water change in your swimming pool. As a swimming pool owner you can either drain it and refill it with our moderately hard tap water or you can call us to recycle the water using our mobile filtration instead. We use The Puripool Process and this service comes to you. This is a great service for both residential and commercial customers. We use Reverse Osmosis (RO) filtration to lower the following issues:

  • Calcium hardness
  • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
  • Cyanuric Acid (CYA)
  • Phosphates
  • Salts
  • Waterborne diseases
  • And so much more
