Water Quality and Swimming Pools

Swimming Pool Water Quality

Cryptosporidium and Swimming Pools

Do you frequent commercial swimming pools or pools with numerous bathers? If you aren’t concerned about the water you’ve been swimming in, you should be. Swimming in excellent quality water is always critical but just because the water is blue and clear to the naked eye doesn’t mean it’s always safe to swim in. Weber Pools is a premier Dallas pool service administered by a staff with decades of experience in the industry. We are a Certified Pool Operator that serves the greater Dallas / Fort Worth area. We are literally a one-stop-shop for all your pool needs — whether that consists of pool cleaning, repair or general pool maintenance. We specialize in both residential and commercial swimming pools. As for commercial pools, we work well with numerous management companies of some of the largest luxury developments in the DFW area. Weber Pools is familiar with the property management process, and we carry the current pool service licenses and insurances required by most commercial facilities. In addition, we also are aware of all the current and ever-changing health department swimming pool requirements and processes.

When it comes to quality, we take it very seriously. We pride ourselves on working with numerous commercial properties and we understand due to the number of bathers the risks are higher! Everyone who hires a service company always wants quality but this also pertains to the water as well. We are committed to our service and to make sure your steps, benches, and interior finish of your swimming pool are brushed and free of debris. Emptying the skimmer basket and pump basket along with skimming the surface of the pool to make it look clean always happens. If needed, vacuuming is also regularly performed. Next comes balancing your water chemistry and that means making sure there are adequate amounts of chlorine and balancing your pH and Total Alkalinity (TA) too. But even when all of these are done, it doesn’t mean that the water is safe to swim in. This is where things can get confusing because even when the pool looks great and the chemistry is correct, there still can be issues and they might not be detectable with standard water tests.

In commercial pool water have you ever noticed the number of time kids and even adults spend in the water without getting out? If this doesn’t make you think about the water you’re swimming in please note, the possibility of people urinating and defecating in the swimming pool is a strong possibility. With that said, here are some precautions you should always take when you are ready to swim:

  • Rinse off before and after you swim
  • Never drink the water
  • If you see someone urinating or defecating in the pool, let someone know and exit the pool immediately
  • If you feel sick after swimming (intestinal) call your doctor and get tested for waterborne diseases

Another way you can make sure you are swimming in the best quality of water is by having Weber Pools recycle your swimming pool water with our mobile filtration system (The Puirpool Process). We offer Reverse Osmosis (RO) filtration for swimming pools. This process lowers Calcium Hardness (CH), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Cyanuric Acid (CYA) and removes waterborne diseases without draining the swimming pool. The Puripool Process provides your swimming pool with drinking quality water for swimming in. If you’re interested in knowing more or having us test your water, contact us today!

The Best Way To Recycle Swimming Pool Water

The Puripool Process

Changing Out Your Pool Water

Is your residential or commercial swimming pool water old or hard? Has any pool professional ever told you that your Calcium Hardness, TDS, or CYA levels are high and that it’s time to drain your swimming pool? If so, we hope this blog post answers the biggest question of why drain when you can recycle? If you have a swimming pool this is a service you will definitely want to know more about. It will save you time, money and swimming in pools with recycled swimming pool water are a lot more fun.

As a swimming pool owner, due to evaporation which is extremely high in Dallas during the summer, you will need to add water to your swimming pool fairly often. During the long hot summer months, the amount of water you will be adding will increase due to increased evaporation. Our water in the Dallas area is loaded with calcium, magnesium, and other hardness minerals. When you regularly introduce this water into your swimming pool, the hardness content in the water will increase. It increases because as water evaporates, the hardness minerals remain in solution and gradually increase in concentration. Unfortunately, as these minerals build up they will start scaling your tile, the interior finish, filtration equipment, spillways, and decorative water features. If you own a salt chlorinator it will also cause problems with those too. Soon, your backyard paradise will be covered with calcium scale that can be extremely hard to remove. With that being said, to help combat this problem, we recommend changing out the water in your swimming pool every two years at a minimum. This will help prevent excess calcium scale, struggles with maintaining proper chemistry in your swimming pool and most importantly your swim experience will be much better because of the feel of the water. In summary, we recommend recycling your swimming pool water regularly with the Puripool Process.

At Weber Pools, we offer a Reverse Osmosis (RO) mobile filtration trailer that can lower/remove calcium, magnesium, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Cyanuric Acid (CYA), phosphates, nitrates, salts and waterborne diseases without draining the swimming pool. There are two hoses that come out of the trailer which continually feeds the swimming pool water into the trailer while the RO membranes lower the hardness. This process will return drinking quality water back to the swimming pool, the liner will never be exposed and you can swim in the pool while the process is being performed. This process will conserve up to 85% of the existing water in the swimming pool and will give you the best water quality to swim in. The benefits of using this process will help extend the lifespan of your investment, will allow you to conserve much-needed water and give you a much better end product than a drain and refill. Not to mention, we can filter most residential swimming pools in less than a day.

How To Remove Calcium From Your Swimming Pool

Puripool in Texas

Lowering Calcium Hardness, TDS, and CYA from your swimming pool

With summer here and swimming pools at the forefront of everyone’s minds, have you checked your Calcium Hardness levels lately? Calcium, magnesium, and other hardness minerals are in our fill water in Texas and it can cause challenges if it isn’t managed. When it comes to water chemistry you need a certain amount of calcium, but unfortunately, in our area, we have too much! If you are concerned about your investment then this blog post is definitely for you because as calcium levels rise in your swimming pool so do the number of issues and challenges. Most pool professionals in the industry will say that the optimal amount of calcium in a swimming pool is between 200 and 400 parts per million (ppm). In some parts of the country, this is possible but with calcium coming out of our tap at a minimum of 300 ppm it’s literally impossible here. That’s why we recommend changing out the water in your swimming pool every 1 – 2 years.

As water evaporates, calcium and other hardness minerals will remain in solution and gradually rise in concentration. Over time, this will become an issue for the following reasons:

  • Scaling of your decorative tile
  • Scaling of your interior finish
  • Scaling on your filtration equipment causing problems with operation.
  • Calcium scaling on your water features and spillways.
  • Potential increase in chemical demand

When any of the above happens it can be an expensive proposition to remove it, not to mention, being an eyesore to look at. At Weber Pools, we are committed to providing you with a variety of services to make your residential and commercial swimming pool experience is more enjoyable, that’s why we offer you The Puripool Process. This is an alternative to draining a swimming pool and we want to educate you on why it will be your best decision. As calcium levels rise in a swimming pool you can either drain and refill your swimming pool or choose to recycle the water instead. If you choose a drain and refill, please note that this process can take 2-3 days, you will be filling your swimming pool up with moderately hard water again and causing structural damage to your liner is always a possibility. Whereas, if you choose to have us recycle your swimming pool water instead, we can lower all of the following without draining the pool:

  • Calcium Hardness (CH)
  • Cyanuric Acid (CYA)
  • Nitrates
  • Borates
  • Salt
  • Iron
  • Copper
  • Magnesium
  • Algaecides
  • Phosphates
  • Bacteria and Viruses
  • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)

The benefits of using the Puripool Process are numerous. Since the water level never changes in the swimming pool, the potential for structural damage is non-existent, we can conserve up to 85% of the water in the pool, we guarantee calcium levels lower than tap water and since you can swim in the pool while the pool is being filtered, there’s no downtime! We can achieve this by bringing our mobile filtration trailer to your home or commercial property. The trailer is equipped with Reverse Osmosis (RO) membranes that have the ability to give you the best quality of water to swim in. It also helps with itchy eyes, dry skin and overall it is a much more fun swim experience because the water is softer.

Water Quality Issues With Commercial Swimming Pools

Commercial Swimming Pool Water Quality

Commercial Swimming Pool Water Quality

With summer here, school is out and we want to know if you frequent commercial swimming pools? If you do, have you ever questioned the water you are swimming in? Have you ever thought about how clean the water is or if the water chemistry is balanced? Remember, just because the water is blue and clear doesn’t mean it’s safe to swim in. Depending on how busy the pool you are swimming in will always determine the water quality. Chances are, the more bathers, the worse the water is.

Weber Pools is a Greater Dallas/Fort Worth pool service company that specializes in working with commercial properties. We work well with numerous management companies of some of the largest luxury developments in the DFW area. Weber Pools is familiar with the property management process, and we carry the current pool service licenses and insurances required by most commercial facilities. In addition, we are also aware of all the current and ever-changing health department swimming pool requirements and processes.

When it comes to commercial swimming pools, we know we have the experience and this has allowed us to not only take care of commercial swimming pools but also help them with their water quality. In the end, if you’ve ever swum in a big pool and noticed that many people stay in the pool for a very long time chances are they are using it as a bathroom as well. With this, sweat, body oils, and lotions the water will become cloudy. The water might even look “old!” Typically, in water parks or high-end resorts, you are going to deal with the factor of urine because most people will not get out of the pool which can make your eyes burn. These factors, along with increasing levels of Calcium Hardness, Total Dissolved Solids, and Cyanuric Acid demand a water change. But do you really want to shut down your swimming pool?

The Puripool Process

At Weber Pools draining a pool isn’t necessary. The Puripool Process allows us to recycle your pool water onsite with Reverse Osmosis (RO) filtration. This process will remove all of the above issues and bring your pool water back to life. You can even swim in the pool during filtration!

The Puripool Refresh Treatment

This is another service that Weber Pools offers. With this service, we will come out to your commercial property and recycle the water for 12 hours. It’s like a “tune-up” for your swimming pool and will help with water quality issues. This is a service that many properties utilize and we would love to share more with you.

If you are curious to know how this service will benefit you, contact us today because not only will you see the difference in your water, but you will feel it too!

Commercial Swimming Pool Regulations for Dallas Swimming Pools

Puripool Swimming Pools in Dallas

Recycling Commercial Swimming Pool Water in Dallas

Weber Pools is a Greater Dallas/Fort Worth pool service company that specializes in working with commercial properties. We work with numerous management companies in some of the largest luxury developments in the DFW area. Weber Pools is familiar with the property management process, and we carry the current pool service licenses and insurances required by most commercial facilities. In addition, we also are aware of all the current and ever-changing health department swimming pool requirements and processes.

There are very few pool service companies that offer the professional service that Weber Pools provides and that all commercial properties demand. We have office staff and highly qualified pool service technicians and repair technicians that cover the Great Dallas/Fort Worth area. We are committed to providing and being available for not only regular everyday needs but for crisis situations as well. Commercial swimming pools are highly regulated and there can be many different reasons why they could be shut down. Nobody wants swimming pools to be shut down especially during the summer time but we can be available to help out when needed! We want to highlight a recent situation that many commercial swimming pool owners face and that is high cyanuric acid (CYA) levels. Just last week we got called out to a job on a 25,000-gallon commercial swimming pool that had levels of 100 parts per million (ppm) CYA. They were having an inspection the next day and with levels that high, they would’ve been shut down.

Recycle swimming pool water in Dallas

So, we showed up with our 40,000 gallons per day mobile filtration Reverse Osmosis unit to help them. With mobile filtration we can help with the following issues without draining the swimming pool:

  • Calcium Hardness
  • Cyanuric Acid
  • Borates
  • Salt
  • Iron
  • Copper
  • Magnesium
  • Algaecides
  • Sequestering Agents
  • Phosphates
  • Bacteria and Viruses
  • Total Dissolved Solids

Cyanuric acid helps reduce the chlorine loss by protecting the free chlorine in the pool from the sun’s ultraviolet rays, reducing the amount of chlorine needed to maintain proper sanitizer levels.  The reason why in Dallas the regulations are set at 100ppm as a maximum is the effectiveness of the chlorine to act as a disinfectant.  Higher levels will bind with the chlorine, making it slower acting to kill bacteria and micro-organisms, and prevent algae.  When this happens, a water change is recommended but they didn’t have enough time so we rolled up with our mobile filtration trailer instead to purify the water using the Puripool Process in less than a day. The end result was conserving 85% of the water in the swimming pool, increasing the effectiveness of the disinfecting agents and most importantly getting their CYA back into a normal range.

If you have any questions on how this mobile trailer can help you, contact us today to learn more!

Reverse Osmosis (RO) For Swimming Pools

Puripool in Dallas

The Best Filtration for Pools is Reverse Osmosis

Reverse osmosis (RO) is a special type of filtration that uses a semi-permeable, thin membrane with pores small enough to pass pure water through while rejecting larger molecules such as dissolved salts (ions) and other impurities such as bacteria. RO is used to produce highly purified water for drinking water systems, industrial boilers, swimming pools, cosmetics, pharmaceutical production, seawater desalination, beer, and so much more. It has been a recognized technology for more than a century and commercialized since the early 1960s. At Weber Pools, we have adopted this system and are using it regularly on both residential and commercial swimming pools!

Specifically, we utilize both mobile and inline RO filtration for tackling swimming pools with high Calcium Hardness (CH), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Cyanuric Acid (CYA), waterborne diseases, salts, phosphates, nitrates, and so much more. This process conserves up to 85% of the existing water in the swimming pool and puts drinking quality water back in your pool which is much better than tap water. This then equates to you swimming in the best quality of water!

Recycling swimming pool water has been around for a while. In fact, we purchased our mobile filtration trailer from Pure Water Industries who started doing this 10 years ago!  It was invented with the sole belief that draining a swimming pool must be a thing of the past. Water conservation, less chemical demand and a swimming pool that is cleaner, safer and healthier for you and your family; all the benefits of maintaining your investment with Weber Pools!

Why hassle with pumping the water from your pool, paying for the refill and then trying to figure out the complicated chemicals needed to re-balance your pool water, when Weber Pools can take care of it for you? In less than a day, we can filter your water and lower Calcium Hardness, TDS, CYA, phosphates, salt, bacteria, viruses, etc. and provide you with a clean, fresh pool! Not to mention, you can swim in the pool while filtration is occurring!

Would you like to swim in drinking quality water? If your answer is yes which we believe it should be, using Reverse Osmosis for your swimming pool is definitely the way to go. Trust us, your pool is going to love it and so are you! To learn more please contact us today and we promise to give you the best water quality to swim in!

Water Quality In Dallas Swimming Pools

Commercial Pool Service Dallas

Commercial Swimming Pool Service Dallas Texas

Swimming in quality water is always critical but just because the water is blue and doesn’t mean it’s always safe to swim in. Do you swim in commercial swimming pools? If so, this thinking should always be more of a concern of yours. Weber Pools, Dallas, Texas, is a premier weekly pool service administered by a staff with decades of experience in the industry. We specialize in residential and commercial swimming pools and we want to educate all swimmers on the importance of water quality. We hope this blog post gives you some insight if you enjoy swimming in hotel pools, apartment pools, water parks or parks, and recreations pools.

When it comes to quality, that word can go far beyond just the work that is performed. Everyone who hires a weekly pool service company always wants quality but this also pertains to the water as well. We are committed to our service and to make sure your steps, benches, and walls of your swimming pool are brushed and free of debris. Emptying the skimmer basket and pump basket along with skimming the surface of the pool to make it look clean always happens. If the pool needs vacuuming we get it done. Making sure there are adequate amounts of sanitizer is always a priority. We also make sure the pH is balanced too. But even when all of these are done, it doesn’t mean that the water is safe to swim in. This is where things can get confusing because even when the pool looks great and the chemistry is correct, there still can be issues and they might not be detectable with standard water tests.

Tap/fill water has been and still is an issue in the Dallas area. The possibility of people urinating and defecating in the swimming pool is always a possibility. With that said, here are some precautions you should always take when you are ready to swim:

  • Rinse off before and after you swim
  • Never drink the water
  • If you see someone urinating or defecating in the pool, let someone know and exit the pool immediately
  • If you feel sick after swimming call your doctor and get tested for waterborne diseases
  • Never swim in a pool if you are sick or getting over being sick

Another way you can make sure you are swimming in the best quality of water is by having Weber Pools recycle your swimming pool water using our Reverse Osmosis (RO) mobile filtration system. The Puripool Process lowers Calcium Hardness (CH), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Cyanuric Acid (CYA), and removes waterborne diseases without draining the swimming pool. The type of filtration provides your swimming pool with drinking quality water for swimming in. If you’re interested in knowing more or having us test your water, contact us today!

One other note, it isn’t uncommon to see cloudy water in most commercial swimming pools. The water also might be salty. This can be prevented with RO filtration. We know large pools can be fun to swim in but poorly maintained water is definitely a risk and something that can be avoided by hiring Weber Pools!

Cryptosporidium and Swimming Pool Water

Cryptosporidium in pool water

Swimming is fun, it’s relaxing, it’s a way to cool off, and it’s great for exercise but did you know it can also be risky? According to the Center of Disease Control (CDC), “493 recreational waterborne disease outbreaks were reported from 2000 to 2014 — causing at least 27,219 illnesses and eight deaths. A third of those outbreaks were traced to hotel swimming pools or hot tubs and this number is on the rise.” When it comes to waterborne diseases the number one most popular disease is Cryptosporidium (also known as “Crypto”), It is a parasite tough enough to survive even in properly maintained pools.

To further this point,

“Crypto causes 58 percent of outbreaks where a germ was identified linked to pools, hot tubs, and water playgrounds and 89 percent of the illnesses. Crypto spreads in pools when someone sick with the parasite has diarrhea in the water and other swimmers swallow that contaminated water. Swimmers and parents of young swimmers play an essential role in preventing Crypto outbreaks. Swallowing just a mouthful of water with Crypto in it can make otherwise healthy kids and adults sick for weeks with watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, and vomiting.”

If you frequent commercial swimming pools where this is most common the following are ways that you can help prevent it.

  • Don’t swim in the pool if anyone is sick or has diarrhea
  • Ask about water quality issues and the last time the water was checked
  • Don’t swallow the water
  • Shower before entering the pool
  • Take children on frequent bathroom breaks

How To Remove Cryptosporidium From Pool Water?

In the industry, one of the most popular ways to treat cryptosporidium is by Hyperchlorination. The following are the steps necessary to do this:

  1. Close the public pool
  2. Raise the free chlorine to at least 20 parts per million (ppm) for 24-30 hours
  3. Keep the filtration working during hyperchlorination
  4. Backwash the filter after completion of hyperchlorination
  5. Allow swimmers to return to the water after time has been reached and water chemistry returns to normal levels

Even though this is the most popular method, Weber Pools offers The Puripool Process which is a mobile filtration system that uses Reverse Osmosis (RO) filtration. RO has the ability to remove crypto and prevents the need to hyperchlorinate. RO filtration will also lower Calcium Hardness, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Cyanuric Acid (CYA), and so much more. We feel that using our mobile filtration system not only removes crypto but also gives your bathers the best water quality to swim in. If you are curious to know more about how we can help or how we can keep your water chemistry with industry standards, contact us today!

Why Recycling Pool Water is Better Than Draining!

Puripool Mobile Trailer

What is the Puripool Process?

The Puripool Process is an innovative method of recycling pool water through reverse osmosis filtration, UV filtration, and Ozonation. Puripool will remove Cyanuric acid, Calcium and other hard water minerals, excess TDS, Salt, Viruses, Bacteria, and Allergens. The processed water when returned to your pool is bottled water quality, safer, cleaner and healthier than your pool water has ever been.

Why should I use the PuriPool process?

  • Puripool is Eco-friendly, conserving a precious resource – WATER.
  • Puripool makes your water better than tap water.
  • Puripool is economical, the cost is similar to having your pool drained and re-filled.
  • Puripool removes harmful contaminants.
  • Puripool keeps your pool full of water guarding it against floating our exposing plaster to air.
  • Puripool usually takes less than 24 hours and you can swim while it is cleaning.

From the day your pool is first filled, it is often above the standards for pool water chemistry in Calcium Hardness (200 to 400 parts per million, or ppm) and continues to increase as you remove water by getting out of the pool, splashing or evaporation. To replenish this lost water, new water is added and additional hard water is introduced; raising the concentration levels of this hard water (predominantly Calcium and Magnesium) and creating a higher level of these minerals. This level increases, creating such hard water that your chemicals can no longer do their job, dictating the need for higher chemical levels to keep the pool safe. Additionally, scale builds on your interior finish, tile, pool plumbing, and equipment, which can lead to failure and expensive repairs!

In the past, the water was dumped down the drain and since the average pool has 20,000 gallons of water in it this is a huge waste of water. Whereas, ‘The Puripool™ Process” allows us to provide the solution to remove Calcium Hardness and Total Dissolved Solids from all swimming pools, residential or commercial without draining it. As pool water evaporates and time passes, your relaxing, inviting swimming pool becomes more work to maintain and the water becomes less sanitary.

In less than a day, our mobile filtration unit will lower or remove the Total Dissolved Solids, Calcium, excess Stabilizer (Cyanuric Acid), Phosphates, Nitrates, Viruses, etc. We will give you back a clean, healthy pool; all while conserving nearly 85% of your existing water. Your pool will be as pure as if you had filled it with bottled drinking water!

So, why not take the step today to swim in the best water quality possible? Contact us today for a quote and we promise you will not only love the way the water looks but how it feels too!
