One of the most important keys that we feel separates us from other companies is we do our best to make as many suggestions as possible to improve your purchase. For example, we installed a rust-resistant diving board to keep it looking new. It might seem like something simple but most people aren’t aware that you can buy one nor the importance of needing one. It’s our job to educate the customer and to make sure we think of all the options to make the swimming pool great! That’s why we completed this swimming pool with travertine coping, tropics blue mini pebble plaster, and glass tile. Contact us to learn more about why these decisions were made.

When it comes time to making a decision on a pool remodeling company, we know there are many different companies you can hire. Ultimately, Weber Pools has many years of experience in servicing and constructing swimming pools in and around the Greater Dallas/Fort Worth area. We offer everything from chemical servicing to filter cleaning, and we offer a combined full-service pool cleaning package. We can also be hired for pool remodels, backyard fireplaces and so much more!

Please keep in mind, we also work with our clients directly in maintaining and servicing your pool and filters throughout the year. A well-maintained pool is the envy of your neighbors and offers the opportunity for relaxation, entertaining and/or exercise. Let Weber Pools help you make the most of your pool with proper care, cleaning, and maintenance. Remember, purchasing a remodel is just the beginning. Maintaining it with a quality company can help prolong the lifespan of your investment. If you are curious to know more, contact us today!

What Is The Best Filter For My Swimming Pool?

As a swimming pool owner, you have three different choices when it comes to filters for your swimming pool. Each of them has their differences and benefits depending on what you are looking for and we want this blog post to be informative on the differences of each. We will be discussing the types of filters, what makes them unique, when they should be cleaned as well as price points for each. As we have stated in the past, Weber Pools will always choose Jandy first. As an authorized dealer we like Jandy for their price points, reliability, warranty and of course functionality. As for the filters for your swimming pool, you can choose sand, cartridge or diatomaceous earth (DE). Each one of these filters can be further broken down into the following categories to help us decide on which best fits your needs:

  • Type of liner
  • How much vegetation you have around your swimming pool
  • Surface area of the pool
  • Water conservation factors
  • Ease of use
Jandy Sand Filter

Jandy Sand Filter

Sand Filter

  • Easiest filter to use
  • The most common filter you will find for swimming pools
  • Filters down to 20 microns
  • Easy to backwash when pressure rises to set backwash number

  • Requires replacements of sand every 5-8 years or when laterals break
  • Not recommended for pebble tec pools or pools with lots of vegetation due to high micron number
  • Can take much longer to clean up a green pool with this type of filter
  • Can be the hardest filter to work with when parts break because you usually will need to vacuum out the sand if it’s on the inside.
Jandy Cartridge Filter

Jandy Cartridge Filter

Cartridge Filter

  • Simple and easy to maintain
  • Filters down to 10 microns
  • Since there is no backwashing it is the best filter if you are looking for water conservation.
  • Filters better in large surface area pools

  • More expensive filter out of the three
  • Cartridge replacement can be more expensive

Jandy DE Filter

Jandy DE Filter

D.E. Filter

  • Filters down to 3 microns. This will keep your pool the cleanest
  • Filters the largest surface area and keeps the pool the cleanest
  • Best for pools with lots of vegetation in the backyard
  • If you happen to get a green pool, this filter will clean it up the quickest

  • Requires the most amount of maintenance especially after backwashing

The key to picking out which type of filter for your swimming pool is ultimately dependent on you but the above factors should help you make a decision. Most importantly, if your swimming pool is surrounded by a lot of trees, plants, soil and other types of vegetation, the clearest cut choice for you to keep your pool the cleanest is going to be a D.E. filter. Other than that, if you’re in an area where there are drought conditions we would recommend a cartridge filter because there is no backwashing and it does a great job of keeping your swimming pool clean. When it comes to a sand filter, all that is necessary is a backwash but always be on the lookout for sand in your pool. When that happens, you might have a cracked lateral, which is the main filtration mechanism in a sand filter. At this point, a sand change will be necessary. As for cartridge filters, when the pressure rises to the maximum, they will need to be hosed down and cleaned (typically quarterly). Make sure to open up the pleats of the filter to thoroughly clean them. Finally, a D.E. filter should be taken apart at a minimum of one time a year. You will need to hose down the grids to get the excess D.E. off of them and then recharge the filter when you put it back together. Please note, that if you see D.E. blowing back into the pool, that’s a sign there’s a tear in the grid and it will need to be replaced.

At Weber Pools, we are very familiar with each type of filter and can keep track of backwashing, cleaning and replacing if necessary. If you should have any questions in regards to filters, contact us today!

Water Conservation in Texas

Mobile Filtration Trailer

According to a recent article in TribTalk entitled Taking The Long View On Water Conservation in Texas, “Utility customers in drought-afflicted areas in Texas have lately been faced with what appears, on the surface, to be a paradox: watching their water bills go up even as they use less. The immediate math is simple. When utilities encourage conservation, customers use less water, which means less revenue for those utilities. But what few utilities and officials — not to mention increasingly frustrated headlines in Texas and across the country — point out is that in actuality, customers who conserve water are using less to pay less over time.”

It wasn’t too long ago that Dallas and the entire Texas area was in a severe drought. Water conservation was at an all time high and everyone was extremely concerned about how they used water. We ended up getting a lot of rain which put us into the safe zone again but over the last few months a lot of discussion has been occurring again that is centered around water conservation. We need to be forward thinking and we need to be concerned about water conservation and water quality. At Weber Pools we are a full service swimming pool maintenance and repair company. We are also extremely concerned about our water quality and conservation efforts too.

In addition to all your backyard swimming pool needs we also offer The Puripool Process too. About every two years, it is recommended to change out the water in your swimming pool because of rising calcium hardness and total dissolved solids levels. Due to our water quality issues too this is something that every swimming pool owner should do every couple of years. Our service includes having a mobile filtration trailer that comes to you and is equipped with Reverse Osmosis (RO) filtration membranes that lower these common swimming pool water issues:

  • Calcium hardness
  • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
  • Cyanuric acid (CYA)
  • Salts
  • Phosphates
  • Waterborne diseases

By using high pressure RO membranes we are able to conserve approximately 85% of the existing water in the swimming pool, you are able to swim in the pool while the process is being performed, the water quality is drinking quality water and we guarantee you better than tap water when the process is done. The process can be done on most residential swimming pools in less than a day which also saves you time and money. In the commercial setting it is a great alternative because there’s no downtime and since we never expose the surface of the pool we also take all the risks away of damaging the plaster or any liner of the pool. This is a service that you will want to know more about and we ask that you think twice before you drain your swimming pool and call us instead!!

How To Extend Your Swim Season

It is always that dreaded time of year when swim season is coming to an end. Depending on where you are, fall can be an exciting time for football season, cooler temps, holidays and so much more but if you’re a fan of summer and your swimming pool those days are pretty much numbered. It doesn’t take that much of a decrease in night temperatures to make a drastic change in how cool the water is to your comfort level. So with the upcoming fall season if you love to swim laps in your pool, have friends and family over for barbecues, or just enjoy relaxing in your pool we want to share a couple of ideas with you on how you can extend your swim season!

First and foremost, you can install a pool/spa heater or pool/spa heat pump. There are some distinct differences between each, which we will highlight for you. When it comes to pool heaters, they are the most popular option when it comes to heating your pool. They typically use natural gas or propane that heats the water that returns to the pool. The upfront cost is normally less but they will require the cost of propane or natural gas, which varies depending on where you live.

Pool/Spa Heater Pros and Cons

  • Lower upfront cost
  • Heats the water quickly
  • Can work in any water temperature

  • Higher run cost

Whereas with pool heat pumps, they deliver maximum energy efficiency and reliability. Heat pumps absorb free heat from the air and transfer it to the water, making the heating process ecological and cost-effective. Heat pumps are becoming increasingly popular with pool owners. This process doesn’t require natural gas or propane which lowers run cost drastically.

Pool/Spa Heat Pump Pros and Cons

  • Lower run cost
  • Energy efficient

  • Higher upfront cost

Another option for you would be to purchase a solar pool cover. To keep your swimming pool warm without using gas, electricity or spending a lot of money this might be the best option for you. Please keep in mind that they must be used while the air temperature is still warm because they can keep the water warm longer but they will not raise the temperature. So, if the water is already cold and the temperatures are too, this will not be an option. During the day when the sun is hot and air is warm, this allows the pool water to get warmer. But, at night when the temperatures drop, so does the heat of the water. By having a solar pool cover this stops the heat from escaping your pool.

All of these options can help extend your swim season but it is ultimately up to you to look at costs associated with each. If you end up choosing a heater or heat pump we highly recommend going with Jandy Pro Series for reliability, price point, great customer service and warranty. If you should have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us today!!

Dallas Can Win Water Conservation Contest By Not Draining Their Swimming Pools

In a recent article written by Jeff Mosier of The Dallas Morning News titled, “Dallas, Once No. 1 In Water Conservation Contest, Is Now Treading Water” we know of a great way for individuals to conserve water!! In 2015, Dallas finished fifth in the contest but that has slipped this year. According to Mosier, “this year, Dallas isn’t faring so well. The city is now ranked 12 out of 26 in the Wyland National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation, which runs through the end of April. Cities jockey for top positions throughout the month, so Dallas is certainly still in the running,” said Scott Goldstein, a Rawlings spokesman. “It’s important to note that DWU [Dallas Water Utilities] and the city of Dallas are engaged in ongoing efforts to promote conservation.” There are a variety of water conservation acts that people can do when they fill out the survey >> Save Water Dallas

Well, at Weber Pools we have another way that you can conserve water that go far beyond fixing leaky faucets, taking shorter showers and using refillable water bottles. This is not to say that those aren’t good ideas as everything helps but what if we told you we have a way to conserve on average 20,000 gallons of water each day? Are you intrigued? We are a forward thinking company and believe that water conservation should always be in the forefront of everyone’s mind. Our mobile filtration trailers were designed to lower calcium hardness, total dissolved solids, cyanuric acid, salts, phosphates and so much more without draining the swimming pool! The mobile filtration trailer is equipped with Reverse Osmosis (RO) membranes that lower hardness minerals from the swimming pool while conserving 85% of the water in the pool. The bottomline is, it’s recommended to drain your swimming pool every two years because of calcium and other hardness minerals which destroy swimming pools. Instead of draining them we want to urge swimming pool owners in the Dallas area to stop draining and wasting all that water when you can conserve it and get a much better end product! We have been conserving millions of gallons of water over the last couple years and are ready to serve you! So who’s ready to make a serious impact on the environment by conserving 20,000 gallons of water or more a day by not draining their swimming pool? Remember, this is the largest water conservation act a homeowner can do and we want to help get Dallas back on the map for water conservation!

With all that said, if you’re interested in learning more about how Weber Pools can help you, please give us a call today! 817-481-7665

Why LED Lighting for Your Swimming Pool Makes Sense!

Are you tired of your swimming pool looking “normal” when you turn on your pool light at night? Are you tired of hiring a professional to come out and change your light after only 300 hours of use? Have you ever thought about what it would be like to install an LED light in your swimming pool? If you’ve answered yes to any of those questions, then installing a Jandy LED Pool Light is the way to go. As an official Jandy warranty service provider we have been and will continue to recommend their products because of quality, great customer service and overall satisfaction.

LED lights can be fun, they can add colorful water displays to your pool and can ultimately save you time and money. Not to mention, they cost you pretty much nothing to operate! When comparing them to a standard incandescent light in a swimming pool there isn’t much of a comparison. Most incandescent bulbs last 300 hours, cost roughly $400.00 to $450.00 to replace, they use more electricity and you should hire a professional to install it because of the electricity/water factor. Whereas, with an LED light you can get up to 50,000 hours of lighting and they reduce your energy expense by up to 90%. The biggest difference is in price where LED lights cost roughly $1000.00 to install.

When it comes to energy-efficiency and lighting, Jandy Pro Series WaterColors LED pool and spa lights are the way to go. Here are some of their best features:

  • “Unique wide angle lens design saturates your water with a wide variety of primary colors and blended water colors”
  • “Choose from five color shows or let Jandy Pro Series WaterColors transition through continuously changing colors”
  • “Reduces your energy expenses by up to 90%”
  • “Conveniently operated by a light switch, any iAqualink, Aqualink RS, PDA system, or Aqualink Touch”
  • “Plastic and stainless steel niches available”

When it comes to your backyard, why be normal when you can stand out with an endless display of brilliant, gorgeous color? If you are interested in learning more about how the Jandy Pro Series LED Lights would be a fit for you, call us today at 817-481-7665.

Energy Efficiency Pumps For Your Swimming Pool

In the United States there has been a major shift in thinking over the last several years. This shift has been in the ways people are thinking about installing more energy efficient appliances on their houses. There’s no question that homeowners are definitely looking for ways to increase their dollar especially when energy rates continue to climb. At Weber Pools we can’t blame them and we have noticed a large increase in sales and installation over the last couple of years of energy efficiency pumps.

It is possible to save energy and maintain an enjoyable swimming pool by using a smaller, higher efficiency pump and by operating it less. Typically, an energy efficient pump will use anywhere from 35-45% less energy than that of a standard pump. With savings like that, the difference between a standard pump and an energy efficient pump can be quite drastic. These pumps now come in a variety of speeds so you have full control over how much turnover you need depending on time of year and cleanliness of your swimming pool. Depending on where you live and if you own a swimming pool we definitely suggest looking into an energy efficient pump to help you save money. You can also use the following residential pool pump savings calculator to see approximately what switching can save you.

At Weber Pools we can install a variety of energy efficient pumps but our favorite is the Jandy ePump. It has eight variable speeds along with a high-efficiency motor which makes it one of the quietest pumps available. We feel that its longevity, name brand and the fact that it moves more water per horsepower makes it a smart buy. The following features are another reason why its the brand we recommend first….

  • Uses 90% less energy than single speed pumps
  • Completely programmable
  • Quieter operation
  • Easy to read indicators
  • 1.5 and 2.0 HP models available

The Dallas area is becoming more and more energy efficient each year and at Weber Pools we are aware of it and want to provide you with any energy efficient upgrades you might need. Stay tuned to our blog as in the upcoming weeks we will be highlighting other options for your swimming pool to save you money and if you’re interested in learning more about installing this pump at your home or commercial property, call us today at 817-481-7665.
